The Preparatory Department (PD) for Foreign Citizens launched its work in September 1991.

 For more than thirty years history, over 2,000 students studied here and over 1,300 graduates received certificates of successful completion of their training at the Preparatory Department.

At the Preparatory Department, which is a structural unit of the Department of International Education, foreign citizens master Ukrainian/English as languages of further professional instruction at the university and study the general subjects.

Enrollment: provided that foreign applicants have a complete general secondary education acquired in their country of residence.

Training period: 10 months.

Field of training: general training.

Academic disciplines:

  • for groups with Ukrainian as the language of instruction: Ukrainian, scientific style of speech, connected speech, biology, mathematics, physics, and chemistry;
  • for groups with English as the language of instruction: English, Ukrainian, biology, mathematics, physics, and chemistry.

Departments taking part in the training at the PD:

  • Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies (EPzT); 
  • Department of Electronics, General and Applied Physics (EZPF); 
  • Department of Mathematical Analysis and Optimization Methods (MAiMO); 
  • Department of Language Training for Foreign Citizens (MPIG);
  • Department of Theoretical and Applied Chemistry (TPH).

The Preparatory Department hosts a science club (scientific circle) for foreign students "PF.Lang.Laboratory". Under the EU-funded Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Programme, the Department has launched the Ukrainian-language hub-laboratory on Facebook "Ukr. Lang.Laboratory for foreign students" that introduces free extra innovative learning technologies into the educational process.

 Students learn how to write abstracts and scientific reports, master public speaking, and participate in annual student scientific conferences and other scientific events or seminars at the university, national, and international levels.

Cross-cultural discussions, projects, workshops, conferences, excursions, sports sections and events, psychological support and consultations from leading specialists of the University Hospital - all this and much more no less interesting is offered at the Preparatory Department to students for their self-development, self-improvement, extensive cross-cultural interaction, and leisure.

The students who successfully complete the training program of the Department obtain a Certificate of Completion and may get enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program at Sumy State University without taking entrance exams.
